Follow Jesus

Before embarking on a journey it’s best to make sure the GPS is on and working properly. In the case of a journey in discipleship, the “God Positioning System” is key.

For disciples of Jesus, our destination is the Kingdom of God. Guidelines for the journey have been established by the Word: Jesus is the leader; we’re the followers.

“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” Jesus, Mark 1:17

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” Jesus, John 15:5

“Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.” Hebrews 3:1

Jesus is the cornerstone, the author and perfecter of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2). We are of great value to him, but it’s important to remember our place in all this. He’s the Shepherd; we’re the sheep!

In order to make disciples, we first have to be disciples of Jesus! The “follow me” part of Jesus command comes first. Discipleship mandates “followership.” It is only through following him that we get to help catch fish.

Just sayin,
