“Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, ‘Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?’” (John 6:8)
The gospels record the story of Jesus feeding thousands of people by using a little boy’s sack lunch. He took the meager but willing offering of a child and multiplied it to bless a hungry multitude of thousands. God works that way.
While we might feel overwhelmed by the immense task of reaching a lost world, it’s important to remember the work starts with one person at a time. God only asks that we step out in faith. The task may seem way beyond our sack-lunch-sized abilities, but God is faithful. He specializes in power and multiplication.
One life faithfully invested in discipling a few can produce tremendous fruit in the kingdom of God. Think like a multiplier. There is power in one!
“I, [Paul] planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase” (1 Corinthians 3:6).
“A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough” (Galatians 5:9).
This makes me think of where in my circle of influence can I really make a difference. At the same time, I wonder if I’m truly bold enough to take this leap of faith with someone. One conversation at a time… just keep it simple. I don’t think we can ever go wrong by showing someone that we care by listening, talking, and responding. Twelve men multiplied to become the millions of Christians around the world… Wow!!!!
