Six Discipling Relationships

By |2010-06-23T13:57:35-05:00June 23rd, 2010|Uncategorized|0 Comments

If you're among those trying to build a discipling ministry at your church, I'd recommend Glenn McDonald's , The Disciple Making Church (Faithwalk Publishing, 2007). Christianity Today calls it "an excellent resource for pastors and congregations seeking to reclaim formation and discipleship as central to their life and purpose." Reclaim? That word really sticks out. Why [...]

Growing Disciples at the Greenhouse

By |2010-06-11T16:36:19-05:00June 11th, 2010|Uncategorized|0 Comments

Imagine: A group of men "down-on-their-luck" gathered around a table at a place called the Greenhouse. They've come here each Wednesday morning for the past two months to discuss the teachings of a man who lived over 2,000 years ago. Two are from the slums of Chicago, one is a drifter from Houston, [...]

“Does Anybody Hear Her?”

By |2010-05-24T17:59:24-05:00May 24th, 2010|Uncategorized|0 Comments

I recently wrote a blog titled, "Who's That at the Well?" Several of you responded with helpful comments and insights of your own regarding this story from John's gospel. Prior to writing that piece I hadn't been familiar with the Casting Crowns song, "Does Anybody Hear Her?" Because of its relevance however, I'm now sending [...]

I am a new blogger, so I have been trying to think of something great that I could share with the world. I will start off by sharing a little about myself. I am a 29-year-old campus minister in the Nashville, TN area, and I am a Christian. I realize that when I use the [...]

Which Gun Would You Use?

Jesus' plan for reaching the world was called “making disciples”. To put it simply, making disciples is an educational method where you put a lot of time into a few people to equip them. It is what Jesus did. Jesus didn’t neglect the masses or the multitudes, but His concentration was upon the few. He gave the majority of His three year ministry to equipping the Twelve and especially Peter, James, and John.

Five Dollars Goes a Long Way!

"Five....Five Dollar.... Five Dollars Goes a Lonnnng Waaaaay!" We've all and seen and heard the Subway commercial umpteen times regarding their $5 sub special. Give them credit - it's a catchy slogan and five bucks for a footlong sandwich is a good deal! I had one of their new Buffalo Chicken footlongs there today, and [...]

Who’s That at the Well?

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water,Jesus said to her, "Will you give me a drink?" John 4:7 John chapter four has shock value: the Son of God greets an ethnically impure, sinful woman (someone who's apparently shunned by her own people; five husbands and now shacked up with a guy she [...]

Do You Have an Editor

Who speaks into your life? Whom do you let in? Think of one or two people who know you, warts and all - confidants you trust with all the good, bad, and ugly. The temptation to fake it and hide sin deepens our loneliness and prevents the kind of community we're supposed to enjoy in [...]
